BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH. BMW is a German-owned company and has been since it was founded on the 7th of March 1916. 

Who owns BMW?

BMW was originally founded in 1916 by four men; Karl Friedrich Rapp took the lead and can be regarded as the main founder of the company. Throughout the years, it has had various owners and directors. However, as of 2016, the majority shareholders in the company were Stefan Quandt and Susanne Klatten, who own 29% and 21%, respectively, with the other 50% of the shares being publicly owned.
